https://soundcloud.com/user-846320074/sevenpm If you’ve followed our Wiggidies Wednesday, you most likely have heard the sounds of Freezy and Pimp Jong Ill. Well today is the re-emergence as they begin their assault on the Chicago scene with “7Pm”. Produced by Pimp Jong Ill himself, “7Pm” slaps.
We’re back with another Wiggidies Wednesday, with more tracks from the Crew you never knew. We used to record in Benny Nice’s basement, and while down there we’d find a ton of weird instruments and non instruments to add to beats if we weren’t making sample based music. Today’s selection showcases a bit of both. Remember this series is about showing an evolution in styles through the prism of a bunch of youth coming into their own as artists, with many of the members flexing way harder on the rap shits in modern day. As always have some fun and kick back w/ a doob and listen to these.
Dally Auston returns in the lead up to his much anticipated Roses with “Bitch I’m Beautiful”. In the vein of Dally classics such as “Westside Get The Money”, this one is a quick lil’ 2mins of SaveMoney’s don dada reminding y’all that he is next up and fully focused. You may have heard Dally on our single with the likes of theMIND and King Louie on “Vices” in the lead up to our Countdown 2 Midnight, and now coupled with “Bitch I’m Beautiful”, you know the god is taking no prisoners.
Morimoto stays killing this music game, giving us all a necessary injection of jazz fused with whatever Morimoto is on and some hip hop for good measure. This dude’s sax swag is one thing, but the beats are all crazy crazy crazy. Def give it up one time for Sen Morimoto flexing the musicality to the utmost. “Picture O
SUMMER IS HERE!! It is official people: the sun is out, the legs are out, it’s sweaty on the subway, and this weekend the BBQ will be poppin! Summer is my favorite time of year for music. Nothing takes a good backyard party to the next level like the right selection of tunes. Every year I brush up my personal “Summer Jams” playlist on Spotify; a healthy mix of new and old tunes…a little something for everyone. But in the spirit of Freshness I present here my official Summer Edition of Friday Freshies. Like any good summer day this playlist is a little bit chill, a little bit hazy, plenty of sexy, and a dose of lit. I will continue to add on to this list throughout the summer so make sure to save it and check in often. Enjoy the holiday weekend!
Whole Team is taking 2016 by hostage this year and that is an excellent thing. The collectives latest release is Zookeepa’s latest release, The American. This tape is mesmerizing, and pretty much just in time for beautiful weather vibes. 10 tracks that are spacey, danced out, art… somewhere within those three words you will find Zookeepa’s The American. Another vicious win for The Whole Team squadron.
FATHER D▲ƦKƟ appears to have hit a creative streak lately as he’s putting out a ton of new stuff. We already posted this weeks “Yømi”, and now we get a small, made in 6 hours EP, Live, Laugh, Love, Hentai. This EP flexes on the experimental darkness dude is known for, 3 tracks deep of some ambiance with drums. Fuck with it.
Another Friday, another basket of fresh goods for you to enjoy. There is a heavy dose of Chicago this week as I’ve been feeling the love recently, especially with the new Chance the Rapper project out today. For the record, I won’t be offended if you decide to go listen to that before my playlist. The highlights from the playlist this time around: “Whatcha Wanna Know” is a super fun, upbeat jam. I’ve had it on repeat for since last week and plan on playing it at every party I go to this summer. “Late Night Swimming” is gonna be another go to for me this summer. Laid back vibes, encouragement for good times. Anna Straker seems fairly new to the internet scene, but I’m looking forward to what she comes out with next. Kweku Collins “Stupid Rose” is just one example of the promise that is one display in his Nat Love mixtape. If you like this track go ahead and give the whole thing a listen. Enjoy the freshness and keep an eye out for my Summer Special playlist coming for Memorial Day weekend.
The only gripe about Coloring Book we have is that this song isn’t on the official release. Somehow this one found its way to the masses ears and we’re all the better for it. A complete banger, where the bars are at superior strength, Chance, Mick, and Wiley team for something extremely niiiiiiiiice. Maybe it’s better that this one is one for the cutting room floor. After all some of the best tracks out there by emcees are b-sides and ‘unreleased’ music. Still, this one certainly would have added a lil’ something to Coloring Book.
Chris Crack strikes again and brings a couple dope emcees, Weasel Sims and Jae Haze, with him on “Spiked Lemonade”. Produced by H.N.I.C, “Spiked Lemonade” is hot bars over a sample heavy instrumental with dope drums. No word on a new project, but this one is a welcomed treat. Keep it locked.
